Corsley Fayre
Corsley Fayre, is my local annual country fayre. Before the fayre started, I wondered which of my four Sina paintings I should enter. 'Sina Drums', 'Sina HIG', 'Sina HIGA' or 'Sina Smile'. Although a compact size, 'Sina Drums' is now five years old and has been exposed to my damp bedroom wall each winter. It has acquired a few mould marks, so I must now preserve it the best I can.
The twins, 'HIG' and 'HIGA', are in better condition but would need a lot of space to show them together. I decided it had to be 'Sina Smile'. The varnish on this painting, was still slightly soft and tacky, so I had to be very careful how she was handled.
As I removed her from my lounge wall and placed her in a large carrier bag, I felt a little sad. I was covering up the contagious smile that had kept me smiling throughout some pretty dark months. I pondered. Am I doing the right thing, leaving her to the mercy of a bustling crowd.
This might be sounding a little soppy but it is true. Painting someone you are fond of, creates a bond with the heart, which breaks when the bond is broken. This has already happened to me in the past but that's another story.
It is now early morning...
At 08:00, I walked the quarter of a mile to the fayre. Leaving Sina in capable hands, I took a quick snapshot then walked home. When I got back, I downed a mug of coffee and impatiently munched some broken biscuits, the bond was strong with this one ;)
Time passes by slowly...
At 12:00 the fayre opened and I walked there anxiously, feeling like I imagine a mother feels, when she loses a child on a busy shopping trip. When I arrived, I couldn't see her, my heart sank, I was momentarily gutted, where has my precious Sina gone?
Can you see her?
When the crowd eventually moved on, there she was, smiling at me, as if she had been playing a game of hide and seek.
Smiling back and feeling like I had just been had, I bashfully walked out of the tent, relieved, with a wry smile on my face.
Some time passes by...
After a while, I made my way to the gun dog show, in the arena where the 'Black Knight' was envisaged.
Summer sneaks into Autumn...
I got fooled again, my weather App, had predicted it would be warm and sunny but it was grey and rainy and I shivered in a chilly wind. To warm me up, I took a stroll over to the classic cars. I spoke with enthusiasts, who had restored their Triumphs. This brought back memories of my 'Triumph Spitfire', the best car I ever owned, 'Made in England', when cars were cars.
Along side, there was the 'DeLorean', so after tweaking the space-time continuum, I headed back to the future.
A copious dilation of time ensued...
It was now 16:00, the show was over and it was time to collect my precious. When I got to the 'Horticulture and Craft' display tent, something very unexpected had happened.
To my amazement and delight, 'Sina Smile' had won first prize!
Yay!
